Our Values
What are we about ?
The early church of the first century was built upon a set of values that galvanised them to turn the then known world upside down. Many things have changed but people at a core level remain the same, with the same struggles, pain and challenges. Our church has at its core, values on which it stands and from which we do life together. These are based from the early description of the first century church written in the bible.
'They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.' Acts 2:42-47
We are committed to being a group of people who live out of a culture of devotion, being devoted all by ourselves, to God, to each other and to people who are in our daily lives. We aim to live our lives, demonstrating at all times qualities and values of the early church:
Loyalty: that quality that encourages us to be committed to people, to gathering together, to responsibilities, to the vision of the local church, to devotional life e.g. breaking of bread and prayer etc. SERVING with one another.
Community: that quality that says we can not do this on our own but together we will achieve more. Directing us to group dynamics, team organization, and partnership development. Community is about family values i.e. relationship above rules, friendship above function, people above positions. Developing unity which says that at all costs we strive for unity among ourselves; not uniformity, not union, not united, but that the need and commitment to maintaining a spirit of unity is paramount, resulting in "not my way, but yours be done". Maturity and servant hood as opposed to selfishness. CONNECTING with one another.
Generosity: that quality that causes us to look out for others above ourselves. The something that initiates the giving of our time, resources and talents motivated by the grace of God in our lives. Out of this comes behaviours such as hospitality, outreach. SHARING with one another.
Maturity: that quality of spiritual, emotional and psychological growth, allowing God to shape our lives to become the people we need to be. It encompasses people development, the preaching of the word, worship and praise, leadership, counseling and mentoring. GROWING with one another.
Humility: that quality that causes us to look beyond ourselves. To be reliant on and dependent upon the grace of God, and to respond to Him with all our being (heart, mind, soul and strength). WORSHIPPING with one another.
